Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC international)

PIAAC is a survey supported by the OECD that aims to determine the competence level in international relation – similar to PISA. In contrast to PISA, PIAAC focuses on the survey on adult competencies. The PIAAC survey determines basic competencies which are necessary for a successful participation in society and especially in professional life. Thus, PIAAC will provide the description of human capital on which countries in global competition can draw on. The survey findings build a profound basis for possible political and social interventions. The survey is implemented simultaneously in 25 countries as a population survey. GESIS participates in the consortium that is responsible for the planning of PIAAC and its implementation in the diverse countries. GESIS’ tasks are the development and validation of the background questionnaire and the training for its translation into the diverse target languages. The first wave was conducted in 2011/2012. First results were published in October 2013.
