Population / Sample

The population includes graduates who obtained their first degree during the examination period of 1997 at a university/college (Hochschule) in Germany (except graduates from universities of the German armed forces, (Universitäten der Bundeswehr), college of public administration (Verwaltungsfachhochschulen), universities for professionals (Hochschule für Berufstätige) and universities of cooperative education (Berufsakademien).

The examination period of 1997 includes the winter term 1996/1997 and the summer term 1997.

The sample is a disproportional stratified cluster sample. The clusters were defined according to the subject area, type of degree and university/college (Hochschule). Moreover the distribution of graduates according to the type and the location of the university (eastern and western federal states) were taken into account.

Sample Size

Gross sample: ca. 35.000 graduates
­Net sample 1st wave: 9583 graduates
­Net sample 2nd wave: 6220 graduates

­6216 cases are in the Scientific Use File.
