National Assessment Study in Primary Schools 2011 (IQB-LV 2011)

The national assessment study in primary schools 2011 (IQB Ländervergleich 2011 Primarstufe) was designed to assess students’ school achievement and to evaluate to which extent educational standards are met in the German Länder.

Students in grade 4 in primary schools (including special educational schools and Waldorf schools)

Parents and German/Mathematics teachers of the selected student and the principals of the selected schools

Population / Sample

Students in grade 4 in primary schools in Germany. Oversamlping in the city states Bremen, Hamburg and Berlin.

Sample Size

n= circa 27,000 target persons

Survey Procedure and Instruments

Standardized achievement tests in German - reading and listening comprehension as well as orthography, and in mathematics - five central topics of mathematics proficiency (numbers and operations, geometry and orientation, patterns and structures, sizes and measurements as well as data, frequency and probability).

Background questionnaires for students, parents, teachers and principals were considered to assess students’ socio-cultural, ethnic and familial background as well as aspects of their learning environment in schools.
