Leibniz Education Research Network (LERN)

Education counts among the most important areas of activity in society today and in the future. Shaping an education system and its institutions and ensuring their success is regarded as a central resource for prosperity, cultural wealth, and social cohesion in modern societies.

The breadth and depth of scientific expertise in the Leibniz Association on questions of formal, institutionalised education as well as informal education is unique in Germany. In various Leibniz institutes, experts from the domains of educational science, subject-matter education, linguistics, media and cultural studies, neurosciences, economics, political sciences, psychology, sociology as well as information science and computer science are researching on relevant facets of education and educational potentials.

For an initial duration of five years, this particular strength has been further developed in a research network. The Leibniz Education Research Network  aims to systematically contribute to an optimisation of societal development and the use of educational potentials.

In their assembly meeting on November 22, 2016, the LERN members have decided to continue this engagement for seven more years.
